Kissing Writer’s Block Goodbye

writ - er’s block
n. a phenomenon involving temporary loss of ability to begin or continue writing, usually due to lack of inspiration or creativity.

When I went from working at a print magazine to an online publication my writing went to the wayside. It wasn’t intentional but just like everything else, writing takes practice and as I shifted my focus towards editing and video production I found myself going days without putting pen to paper. Over time I realized that I was “losing my ability to write” but instead of fighting it I just dove deeper into distractions. This is not to say that I couldn’t physically push out a news article or a blog entry. I could (and I did) but my voice was gone.

Lately, my job duties have shifted and I find myself writing every day again. I’ve slowly started seeing glimpses of myself creeping back into my work and I couldn’t be happier.

Here are some of the articles that I’ve been writing lately:

Remy Ma

I just read Chloe A. Hilliard’s article in the Village Voice entitled “Shooting Star Taking aim at Remy Ma.” It’s a little lengthy but a good read indeed. Despite concerns that she might get popped in the abdomen, Chloe throws caution to the wind, in the name of journalism, and agrees to “follow Remy around for a few days. And be careful about offering to hold her purse.”

The Rise of Bathing Ape

This is an interesting article about the genius that is Nigo, founder of Bathing Ape. If you’ve read articles about him in the past there’s nothing new to see here but if not, this is definitely a good read

Cyber Closets

This is sick. It’s a new concept called Garde Robe which is basically a storage facility where New Yorkers can store their clothes and shoes in the off-season. They digitally photograph each piece in your wardrobe and place it in an online Cyber Closet that you can browse at your leisure. Then you can call for delivery 24/7. My only question is… if you can afford $350 a month for a wardrobe facility why wouldn’t you just rent or buy a place with bigger closets?
